Calm, Clarity, Control
You don't have to live braced for the next wave. Using cognitive-behavioral therapy, mindfulness-based techniques, and clinical hypnotherapy, Dr. Rieke helps clients move from chronic anxiety into a life with more calm, clarity, and control.
When Anxiety Runs the Show
Anxiety can show up as constant worry, a racing mind, physical tension, or sudden panic that seems to come out of nowhere. It can make ordinary situations — driving, socializing, sleeping, even resting — feel like something to get through rather than something to enjoy. Over time, many people build their days around avoiding the things that trigger it, which can shrink life in ways that are hard to notice from the inside.
How Therapy Helps
Therapy for anxiety and panic focuses on understanding the specific patterns of thought and physical response that keep the cycle going, and building practical skills to interrupt it — so a racing heartbeat or an anxious thought no longer has to spiral into a full panic response. Sessions draw on whichever combination fits each client best:
- Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) — identifying the specific thoughts and beliefs that fuel anxiety, and building more accurate, flexible ways of responding to them.
- Exposure-based techniques — safely and gradually re-approaching avoided situations or sensations, so the nervous system learns they aren't actually dangerous.
- Mindfulness-based stress reduction — practical skills for noticing anxious sensations without being swept up in them.
- Clinical hypnotherapy — a relaxation-focused, evidence-informed complement some clients find helpful alongside talk therapy.
What the Research Says
Anxiety disorders are the most common mental health condition in the United States, and the treatments used in this practice have real evidence behind them:
- An estimated 19.1% of U.S. adults experience an anxiety disorder in a given year, and nearly a third will experience one at some point in their life.National Institute of Mental Health →
- Cognitive-behavioral therapy remains one of the most extensively studied treatments for anxiety-related conditions — a 2023 meta-analysis of recent placebo-controlled trials confirmed real, measurable benefits, with responses that vary from person to person.Current Psychiatry Reports →
- For panic disorder specifically, exposure-based psychotherapy is considered a first-choice treatment, with symptoms often easing within weeks to months.Mayo Clinic →
- A 2023 clinical trial found mindfulness-based stress reduction comparably effective to a standard anti-anxiety medication, with research broadly showing moderate evidence that mindfulness practices reduce anxiety.NIH National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health →
In the interest of transparency: the research on clinical hypnosis for anxiety is still limited and mixed — existing trials tend to be small. Dr. Rieke offers it as a complementary relaxation tool some clients find helpful, not as a stand-alone, first-line treatment.
